What to Wear for Airsoft: A Quick Guide

No matter if you're a first-timer or a seasoned player, your airsoft gear will likely evolve as you discover your personal style. The most important thing is always protecting yourself so you can leave the field with minimal bumps and bruises.

If it's your first time playing airsoft, I always recommend renting equipment at the field. Rentals usually include most of the essentials you'll need, like a full-face mask, gloves, and a plate carrier. While some fields might not provide gloves, they will always give you an airsoft-rated face mask designed to withstand BB impacts. It might seem cheaper to buy gear online beforehand, but since you don't even know if you'll enjoy airsoft yet, renting is the safest and smartest first step.

So, you've played a few times and are ready to invest in your own gear. Your top priorities should still be a full-face mask and gloves. Protecting your entire face and hands is crucial. For face and eye protection, look for something that's ANSI Z87.1 rated and offers full-seal protection. This means it won't break or crack from direct BB hits. If you're unsure if your eye protection meets the standard, don't hesitate to ask the field staff for help. These parts of your body are always exposed, so proper protection is key. For body protection, you can purchase a plate carrier or chest rig, or simply layer up with a hoodie until you find something that suits your needs and style.

The shoes you wear are also important. Opt for footwear with proper ankle support. You'll often find yourself walking on scattered BBs, which can cause you to slip. NEVERr wear flip-flops or any open-toed shoes that expose your feet—getting shot in the foot is an experience you'll want to avoid.

Ultimately, airsoft can become a bit of a "fashion show" as players showcase their gear. But as long as you're protecting the most vulnerable parts of your body, feel free to enjoy the game and express your style!
